Arab News reports that two border guards in Najran, on the Saudi-Yemeni border, were killed in an ambush. Eleven suspected terrorists were arrested while attempting to cross the border, with ten of them being Saudi nationals. At least some of those arrested had had prior arrests for ‘deviant behavior’, Saudi security-talk for religious extremism. Those arrested are not alleged to have taken part in the attack on the border guards.

Two border guards killed, eleven suspected terrorists arrested

Elven people were arrested on Monday, after two Saudi border guards were killed early morning on the same day in an ambushed attack using automatic weapons in Najran Province, the interior ministry said.

A ministry spokesman said 10 Saudi nationals and one Yemeni were arrested while attempting to cross the border to Yemen.

The arrest came after a brief gunfight ensued between Saudi forces and the suspects, which resulted in the severe injury of four of the suspects.

The spokesman said the arrested suspects were previously convicted of deviant activities, who had recently been released from prison.
