Prince Saud Al-Faisal, Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister, has recovered from his latest bout of illness. He is the world’s longest-serving Foreign Minister, having taken up that position in 1975. Contrary to what this article in Saudi Gazette says, however, he is not in good health. He has serious issues with his back, if nothing else, and has been tempted to retire for quite a long time. His services, though, are needed and he has always answered the call. I do hope he finds a way to retire, though finding a replacement with half his skills will be difficult.

RIYADH — Foreign Affairs Minister Prince Saud Al-Faisal will resume work Saturday, three months after undergoing surgery to remove an obstruction in his intestines, a ministry source said.

“Prince Saud Al-Faisal will return to the country Friday to take up his routine activities,” spokesman Osama Al-Nuqli was quoted as saying.

“He is in very good health and will resume his normal activities Saturday,” Al-Nuqli said.
