Just what is halal food? Everyone seems to have a general idea, but a conference is starting today in Riyadh to attempt establishing a universal definition. Arab News reports that the conference is to address issues like how halal food is regulated and certified, how food additives and genetically modified foods fall within or outside the regulations.

    I’m rather suspicious of this conference and its purposes. I suspect some sort of political outcome is what is desired, not a religious-technical one.

    Halal food is what the Saudi government says it is… Example

    Princesses operating illegal business which employ unclean illegal third world poverty stricken servers who will glady serve up your innocent Muslim children mounds and mounds of human feces.

    One question: Do you know what happens to salmonella when it goes into space and comes back again?

    Answer: YOu don’t want to know!

    @Solomon2: Interesting, but for the life of me I cannot think of what political outcome might be desired.

    @Solomon2:
    Like John I really can’t see any conspiracies here. Apart from the religious impact of finely tuning the meaning of Halal, it also has economic ramifications. Having a unified and agreed upon Halal standard would reshape food exports and imports.
