I came across a web log, the other face of saudi arabia, that focuses on photographs of poverty in Saudi Arabia and offers views of the contrasts between the rich and the poor. I don’t know what the blogger’s purpose it, beyond his stated intent to show the poverty and misery that can be found in the country. He does display pictures of deep poverty and minimal development, as in the pictures of some of the state schools. Still, it’s worth noting that Saudi Arabia is not something taken from the wonders of Arabian Nights/1001 Nights.

the point is to show how much the princes gorge public money, and mismanage whatever is left.

This is definitely a different side of Saudi, and he makes the contrast well with the princely palaces.

I was sent this information asking to publish it on my blog which made me feel that the creator has an agenda.

There are remote places in Saudi Arabia which may cry out ‘poverty’ but are typical for the region and the tribes which live there when viewed by outsiders eyes, such as when many westerners see villages in Pakistan for example. I’m not saying there are not cases of real poverty but I felt some of the photos were misrepresenting the people and locale.
