Saudis were shocked to learn, after 9/11, that Islamic charities to which they had been donating were misappropriating contribution toward terrorism. The government stepped in with regulations on donating to foreign-based charities, essentially stopping them. But terrorist and their supporters aren’t stupid: they changed the ways in which they conned people out of their money while relying on the Islamic compulsion to give to charities.
Asharq Alawsat reports that the recent break-up of a terrorist cell in the Kingdom led to the uncovering of a domestic charity, operating outside regulation, that was a source of terrorist funding.
Saudi Arabia: Charity President Involved in Terrorist Cell
Turki Al-SaheilRiyadh, Asharq al-Awsat- Informed sources have revealed to Asharq Al-Awsat that one member of the 44-member cell affiliated to Al Qaeda captured by Saudi authorities in August was arrested after he was found to be exploiting his position in an official charitable organization to raise money for the terrorist group.
The Interior Ministry statement issued in August following the arrest of this cell revealed that members of the Al Qaeda organizations were exploiting charitable organizations in order to finance terrorist activities; however the statement did not reveal the names of any of those arrested.
According to information obtained by Asharq Al-Awsat, one of the 44 suspects arrested was supervising charity work and collecting financial donations under the slogan “a service to Islam and Muslims.”

Question: who is Al-Q?
Anyways, a better slogan would be “Destroying Islam from within…a service to Muslims and Non-Muslims Alike”

This is sad for true charities and those genuinely in need. Free of labelling or worse prevents Muslims in Western countries from contributing to national Muslim charities as well. This deprives Muslims of a key source of aid.

Banks aren’t helping in facilitating charitable transfers either. Yesterday I tried but they told me I had to have the account number. Now the account number isn’t a secret. It is published in their pamphlets etc. The charity that DOES have an account with this bank…yet they refused to give it to me.I will have to go out and make a trip once again. That or set up as a beneficiary! Thanks POI
In addition, do you think the article failed to mention that those with masters and doctorates probably held it in religion?

Sometimes I may come across as funny…that is a survival skill in the wilderness (lol). Here I am serious though; because I am wondering what these people majored in even if it usually the medicine and hard sciences. Do you mean that is usually what people who have masters and doctorates in who join Al-Q, smuggle arms and misappropriate charity?
I just think there is some missing information and my gut feeling is telling me these people may have graduated from Islamic colleges and Universities. I could be wrong
