While I always appreciate news stories that give the full suite of facts, sometimes, as in this Saudi Gazette piece, they can provide a little too much information!
Here, the paper reports on more details of the attempted assassination of the Saudi Deputy Minister of Interior. The bomb was indeed carried within the body of the attacker. The attack was badly engineered, however, so that it resulted in solely the death of the attacker. The article suggests that it was triggered by a cell phone in Yemen. That is a fact that is frightening.
Bomber had half kilo of explosives inside his body
Abdullah Al-OreifijJEDDAH – Suicide bomber Abdullah Asiri had inserted around half a kilogram of explosives into his own body to carry out his failed assassination attempt of Prince Muhammad Bin Naif, Assistant Minister of Interior for Security Affairs, last week.
As more details emerged of the events surrounding the attack that took place at the Prince’s home in Obhur, sources told Okaz newspaper Friday that Asiri’s mobile telephone was equipped with two SIM cards, one of which was used to speak to call members of the terrorist organization in Yemen, and the other to detonate the device located inside Asiri’s rectum via a call from the group.
It was also revealed that the explosive material was placed in small hardened packs of a non-metal substance, resulting in a scenario far less devastating than it might otherwise have been. Investigators are currently trying to identify the type of explosives used in the act.

Ohhh. We need a contest for the best headline here!

I’ve got at least a half-dozen that I’ve avoided using… all of them off-color.

Wah wah I lost my comment because I forgot to put in the darn code! I will do it again…UGHH
K. Assuming it is true that the device was placed in his anus, I doubt his intent was to kill other than himself. Also, was it necessary to go to a hospital over fingers unless of course they were blown off? The King going to visit him there also surprises me. I thought the hospital came to them, unless of course he needed monitoring due to shock and panic which is quite understandable.
Please use the off-color headlines…Please!
Off color joke of the day: What were his fingers doing in his anus?

This whole thing lends itself to off-colour, and I think “caring is sharing”
I kind of wish they wouln’t go into so much technical detail. It almost sounds like they’re coaching.

I fear that if some idiot tries this on a plane, it will cause cavity searches to become mandatory for airport security. At that point, the general population of 99% of the world will rise up and clobber these idiots to death.

A little TMI, as they say.

I think before that, they’ll be using one of the new technologies that uses either magnetism or X-rays to scan a little more than skin deep. Of course, manpower is cheaper than technology in some parts of the world, so perhaps after asking for boarding passes, airline security will be asking passengers to bend over!

Okaz (as sensationalist as ever) even published a picture of the mutilated body of the attacker. Now that’s too much information.

Ok. I’ll go first. (couldn’t resist)
