Saudi Arabia’s patrols of its borders seem are becoming increasingly effective, Asharq Alawsat reports. Most of the illegal entry and smuggling is coming from Yemen, into the Jizan province of Saudi Arabia. The article notes that over 7,000 ‘livestock’ were attempted to be smuggled into the country—along with drugs, alcohol, weapons, and explosives—but doesn’t explain this further. I’m assuming that this means that the animals were being brought in to avoid veterinary health checks.

General al-Sawwat also revealed that Second Deputy Prime Minister Prince Naif Bin Abdulaziz had signed a contract with the European Aeronautic Defense and Space Company [EADS] to build a security fence along Saudi Arabian borders, using the latest security technology to bolster the already high-level of security present in the country.
