‘Arabian Business’ website has this story about Saudi efforts to develop tourism in the Asir region, south of Mecca and Jeddah. The mountainous area is unlike most of Saudi Arabia, in climate and landscape, and is already a popular summer destination for Saudis. The article quotes the new governor, Pr. Faisal bin Khaled, saying that the promotion is an effort to develop the economy of the region.

Twenty-four new tourism projects are to be launched in the middle of next year in Asir Region of Saudi Arabia.

Prince Faisal bin Khaled bin Abdul Aziz, emir of Asir, urged businessmen and investors to invest in tourism projects because such an investment has a huge business potential in the region.

Prince Sultan bin Salman bin Abdul Aziz, secretary general of the General Commission for Tourism and Antiquities (GCTA), was also present at the meeting.

It is wonderful to see the East and West making an attempt to come closer in many ways. The world is such a tiny place now and at the end of the day – people are people – they all want the same thing – freedom and happiness.

Maybe you’d be interested in my new book about a Saudi Arabian Bedouin Arab and an Australian woman coming together, marrying and learning about each others cultures. Knowledge is the key to having no fear.
