Imam Muhammad Ibn Saud Islamic University has a reputation for being a hotbed of extremist Islamic thought. The university is trying to change that, reports Saudi Gazette, through a get-tough policy toward teachers who seek to radicalize students. This is good timing, as the university is starting up a new women’s campus.

RIYADH – The President of Imam Muhammad Bin Saud Islamic University in Riyadh has warned teaching staff against “ideological excesses.”

“The university will not accept any employee or member of teaching staff who does not follow its program or show loyalty to his religion and country,” Soleiman Aba Al-Kheil said. “We will show no leniency in the matter.”

“All university staff and students are in a position of trust and anyone showing signs of excess will be shown the correct path in a sensible and scientific manner,” he said.
