The first is that the 'wicked stepmother' stereotype holds a certain amount of truth. This runs across cultures and religions. Second, the ease with which multiple marriages and divorces take place in Saudi Arabia makes this sort of thing all the easier. We can be happy that the Saudi media is reporting on it and that the courts are punishing it. We can be unhappy that it's going to take a long time--if ever--for this kind of behavior to become extinct. Well, I think two things are operating here.
