I haven't heard of all these folks, but at least some are heavyweight people who have a reputation for getting things done, or at least managing others who do.

I'm surprised Frank Press didn't make the cut. What is Robinson supposed to do, I wonder? And I thought Shih was going to stay President - is it proper that he is on the Board as well?

If KAUST wants to become a genuine educational leader in the Middle East it should consider organizing itself into a system of residential colleges, as can be found at many of the best universities in the world. (And at rising universities in places like Hong Kong, Singapore, and elsewhere.) Shirley Tilghman could point the way for them, as could other people. I only hope they aim high and don't adopt to quickly some of the less distinguished features of American higher education.
