The US Department of State publishes an in-house monthly magazine with the unimaginative title ‘State’. In addition to keeping its employees informed about different rules and regulations, retirements and appointments, glimpses into the various departments and sections of the agency, and sadly obituaries, the magazine also features a ‘Post of the Month’. In September, the post was the US Consulate in Jeddah.
The article, written by a former Information Officer at the Consulate, gives an overview of the types of activities that engage the Consulate as well as a bit of local color.
Unfortunately, the magazine is not web-optimized: it’s a PDF scan of the printed publication. This means that the photos that span the gutters of a printed page are just broken up in the PDF. Too, the photo resolution isn’t great.
The article on Jeddah begins on Page 28 of the 56-page PDF.
You can, of course, browse around the magazine to see some of what State Dept. is up to these days, including how it is seeking to train large numbers of Foreign Service Officers for assignments in Iraq and Afghanistan.
