The Middle East Broadcasters Association’s website has a listing of the different, made-for-Ramadan-broadcast programs throughout the Middle East. Included among them, of course, if the 15th season of the Saudi social commentary program ‘Tash Ma Tash’:
Comical sketches on taboo subjects of Saudi Arabian society such as women driving, the unfair treatment of minority groups, or how cynical religious leaders attract the fringes of society to lives of terror and misconduct.
You can find synopses of the other offerings at the MEB Journal’s site:

John, do you know of any of the Tash ma Tash series available with English Subtitles?
September:24:2007 - 08:56
No, I’m afraid I don’t. Sometimes they show up–months after the fact–on YouTube or equivalent. Sometimes MEMRI will subtitle excerpts, but that also comes pretty late.
It might be asking too much of the producers, but they could certainly do themselves–and Saudi Arabia–a lot of good by putting out subtitled versions on the Internet.

MEMRI also only does so when there is a point to be made against Islam or Muslims.
I agree with John that all of these stations would do everyone a big favour by offering subtitles for them.
From time to time movies and shows on ART/ NILE TV and others will have English subtitles, but not too often.
It would make my wife’s family so I wouldnt have to interupt from time to time to ask for the meaning of a particular word, especially the Egyptian shows.

MEMRI–while always advancing its agenda–does show point out some of the positive things happening in the region. They focus on the ones that happen to coincide with their own view, of course.
That’s better than the media that puts Saudis, Arabs, and Islam exclusively in the ‘bad’ category.

You can see a list of the top Ramadan programs for this year at http://Ramadan.jumptv.com. It also includes the description of each. You can also watch top TV channels live over the internet, such as MBC, LBC, Future TV…

Thanks for the link to jumptv.com. This is a subscription service for those who want to watch numerous Arabic satellite TV programs on their computers. As most American cable systems don’t carry these channels, it may be worth exploring.
