US National Kills Daughter in Al-Khobar
By Joe Avanceña

AL-KHOBAR: AN American killed his 5-year-old daughter here on Saturday when his 27-year-old Saudi wife was away on a business trip to Dubai, the police told The Saudi Gazette on Monday.

The couple have four children.

Motive behind the killing is still not known, according to the police.

A source said the 40-year-old American is under police custody.

The US national, who is employed in a local company, is suspected to be mentally disturbed.

There are very few details available in this Saudi Gazette article. It’s already peculiar that an American would have a Saudi wife—I suspect the American may be a dual-national Saudi-American. The US Consulate in Dhahran confirmed the story, but is not providing any further details. That is not surprising because US privacy laws prohibit it from giving any information without written permission from the American involved. More as it becomes available.

“It’s already pecular that an AMerican would have a saudi wife”? This kind of implies that you think it is pecular that an American man would kill his child.

You have been out of the United States for too long.

Actually, I live in Florida. FL may be atypical, but there’re certainly instances of parents killing their children widely available and not only in FL.

An American man married to a Saudi, however, is statistically far less likely. That’s what caught my attention. It didn’t merit any comment by me on the morality of either killing a child or marrying a Saudi.

This is unbelievable… I couldn’t believe that could happen… till I have seen it in the newspaper… I got astonished, how could a father kill his 5 years old child? There was a photo for Malaikah and I looked at her eyes. I couldn’t sleep that night and I remember this tragedy whenever my 5 years old daughter talks to me. I am so sorry for that little girl and her family.

There are more Saudi women married to American men than you might think. I am an American man married to the daughter of a former Saudi diplomat here in Washington DC.

I am sorry for this lady’s loss. I dont understand how someone can kill their own children. My wife and I have two little boys and I would gladly give up my life for them.

    May Allah rest her soul.
