As an example of the wrongness of arguments saying that the US “only” targets Arab or Islamic groups as terrorists, The US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit upheld State Department’s designation of Koch/Kahane/Kahane Chai (among other aliases) and its controlled website as a Foreign Terrorist Organization, putting it in the same category as Al-Qaeda.
The group had challenged the designation on several grounds. Among them were that State Department did not have enough information to decisively conclude that the organization was terroristic, that designating a website violated the Free Speech guarantees of the First Amendment, and that the group was being discriminated against on religious grounds. The court rejected all challenges.
