Citizens Help Police Nab Top Terrorist
Raid Qusti, Arab NewsRIYADH, 26 July 2005 — Security forces yesterday arrested four terror suspects, one of whom figured on a list of 36 wanted militants announced by the authorities in June.
An Interior Ministry statement carried by the Saudi Press Agency said Muhammad ibn Saeed Al-Siyam Al-Amri, 25, was arrested in Madinah after a tip-off from citizens. Two of his associates were also arrested.
This Arab News article notes the arrest of one of Saudi Arabia’s “most wanted” militants, Muhammad Al-Amri. Again, ordinary citizens played a role in identifying him and informing security forces. The arrest was undertaken without violence.
The story also reports that another terror suspect surrendered in Riyadh. It further notes the rewards being offered by the Saudi government–up to SR 7 milllion/US 1.87 million–for information leading to the arrests of any of the “most wanted”, or for helping to foil an attack.
Additionally, the piece mentions–without a lot of detail–that Syria is extraditing a dozen extremists–presumably Saudi–linked to a Tunisian who was attempting to set up a terrorist training camp in Lebanon. Other extraditions of nationals of unnamed countries are expected to follow.
