Kingdom Offers Support to Find London Bombers
P.K. Abdul Ghafour, Arab News

JEDDAH, 10 July 2005 — Saudi Arabia yesterday offered all-out support to Britain in its bid to track down the criminals behind Thursday’s London bombings. It also called for joint international efforts to dry up sources of terrorism.

“On behalf of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Fahd and myself, I strongly condemn this heinous crime and express the Kingdom’s full readiness to extend whatever help required by our friends in Britain,” Crown Prince Abdullah told British Prime Minister Tony Blair.

The Saudi offer to share intelligence to help the British in their investigation of the 7/7 bombings is a new step. Following 9/11, the Saudis slowly–and reluctantly–started sharing information with the US. After the 5/15/03 bombings in Riyadh, the level of cooperation with the US improved dramatically. Now, the Saudis are becoming proactive, not waiting until asked. I think that’s a good, additional sign that they’re taking the war on terror seriously.

Interior Minister Prince Nayef commented on Saudis joining the terrorists in Iraq:

Prince Naif also said that the Kingdom was ready to deal with those Saudis who have gone to Iraq to fight alongside insurgents.
“We expect only worse from those who have gone to Iraq…”

This article also reports that one of the Saudis “most wanted” (Zayed Hassan Humaid, a Yemeni) was picked up in Yemen where he is currently being held. The Yemenis have also extradited 12 Saudis suspectd of terror links.
